Sorry if this is kind of noobish, but here goes Very Happy :

Can I use the UPP String class without having to worry about encoding standards, assuming it uses an international character set like UTF8?

Yes, more or less yes. Does not mean you can completely ignore all these issues. But yes, the right way is to use UTF8 for String.
