In addition to the Current Release at the main page, why not put info and a download link to the latest development version?
605 is "old", I think we should encourage new users to try the development version too.

That's good. 
I must confess, I have product release "jitters" too but I guess there will always be just one more thing to fix. Why not just release it and get on with the next dev version. Remember that there is no end to this.
If there are no known fatal bugs, and you release a dev version sooner, more users will be able to help you test it and possibly suggest ways to fix the bugs.
