Well, the meeting comes closer. I never done anything like this before, but thinking about the issue I believe it would be a good thing to have some estimate of number of people coming.

Therfore, if you think you will come, please send me a PM!

Mirek

Well, so far I have got only 5 "registrations", including me.

Is it just bad timing or should we reconsider the event?

Maybe it would be more effective to create something like discussion list - a number of topics or main meeting highlights. Then post meeting announcement to the U++ site central page (discussion list and forum topic link should be added too).

Bad timing for me, September got completely booked up for various reasons.

I'm not going to try and persuade the gf that me going to a users meeting is more important then her friends wedding - it wouldn't go well Smile

Well, maybe we should pursue some "Plan B"...

In the end, the initial impulse was to spent a some of sponsoring money. I bet there are simpler ways how to do that Smile

I remember that first time you were asking more people wanted to attend the meeting. I wonder what happend. Maybe you will make registration topic sticky.

Well, it appears that out of 6 key persons, 3 cannot come.

I guess it is time to call it quit and defer to better times.

Means, time for Plan b. Let us make it simple and divide the sponsorship money:)

Well, I really live far from Prague but I would attend through a conferencing system.

Perhaps more people is like me so that the meeting could be done, but by internet.

Best regards

I like the idea; It could be effective to put together an agenda for an official online meeting. Even something simple like Skype where we have chat room plus voice/video. Also, I think the live interaction could make those who are far away feel closer to the project. U++ developers/users seem to be from all over the place!

The only thing that I see would be necessary is to make sure there is a structured agenda and time allotments for topics.

Well, it is really interesting topic.

What would be nice if we could somehow demostrate things using VNC or something like that. Is there anything like "VNC casting"? (I control my desktop, but many people can see it).

Yes, there are desktop sharing applications. I know VNC has view-only mode. So you can start VNC server and have everyone connect. I am not sure what that will be like for bandwidth though; we would probably need to use a web service to help with that.
I found this program/service through a blog posting
Dimdim
"Dimdim provides a web interface where you can host a meeting and others can join it for desktop sharing, chat and video and audio transmission. There's no cost, but also no guarantee of uptime. However, all is not lost. Dimdim also offers a paid service with a 99.9% uptime guarantee and additional features for a flat $99 per year per virtual conference room.

If you'd rather not have your transmissions go outside the office, you can run the Dimdim software yourself. Again, this is free if you run the open source version or a fee for the enterprise version. See the Dimdim Editions chart for comparison."

Skype Extras has a bunch of plugins for desktop sharing / collaboration.

These look promising (found in the collaboration category):
https://extras.skype.com/1836/view
https://extras.skype.com/1654/view
https://extras.skype.com/907/view
https://extras.skype.com/1590/view
https://extras.skype.com/1672/view (limited to 10 participants)

The multicast VNC may be good, can it leverage other computers to use as proxies?
