Can TheIDE be used in two instances? [message #58891] Thu, 22 September 2022 11:54 Go to next message

Hi,

If I start TheIDE twice, it runs in two instances. (On Windows 10)
So far I avoided to do this, because this could trigger problems which confuse a beginner like me.

However, sometimes I would like to do this.
One IDE on Monitor 1 the other on Monitor 2.
For example, to compare two projects or to copy code between two projects.
Also for testing and comparison I would want to compile and possibly debug code in both IDEs.

Is this possible, recommended or disrecommended?

1) Can I run two IDEs on the same project?
2) Can I run two IDEs on different projects?

Hello Peterh,

In short, yes you can use multiple instances of TheIDE at once. You can also open the same project. There might be some problems like modifying configuration in one when the other is not aware of that, but such cases can be avoided.

Thank you.

I have noticed, if I modify the source in one IDE, and have the same source in the other IDE, the modifications are immediately synchronized.
Of course I will not modify the project in two IDEs I am aware this can give trouble. The intention is just to have two independent views of the same project or two separate projects on two monitors.
