Well, I think it will be more than 1000, my estimate is 1200-1500.
Anyway, out of them 80% will quit after first difficulity with installing, other 10% when they find out there is no STL in U++ and other 5% because of documentation.
It would be a huge success to gain 2-3 new U++ programmers from this release.
But, as you have said, Rome was not build in a single day....

80% difficulty installing? Why so much?
First installation of UPP for me was as smooth as you could get and the examples built and execute immediately. Compared with wxWidgets where you almost have to understand make files ...
Only problem, subsequent installations didn't get some of the paths to VC++ toolkit setup correctly - possibly because I have both VC Pro and the toolkit on my PC. One day, a browse button for installation path would be a courtesy too - but this is low priority.

Agree. Installing on Windows is boringly easy;)).
On Linux installation is much more complicated - there isn't any installer so user have to manualy make ~/upp directory and again manualy copy upp files there
