A functionality list created from Delphi/VB/Powerbuilder people [message #7446]

I have discussed about U++ with a few friend developers (they are Delphi, VB and Powerbuilder people, sorry don't know any C++ guys) who build business applications (ERP, POS, Warehouse Management, Logistics, Banking Software, DMS etc.)

I asked their opinion on U++ and what an ideal RAD IDE should offer in terms of ready made functionality for them to use in their applications.

In order to make the list, alphabet letters were chosen on purpose in order to keep the list from a to z, I know that there could be a lot more things in there but I just wanted to give you a general idea.

(The list is not censored or sorted in any particular order , just as the ideas were spoken)

Must Have:
a) Data editing forms , tabulars and grids with calculated fields, searching, sorting, grouping functionality and various events (e.g. OnfieldChange , OnRowChange etc.)
b) Reporting (simple lists, summaries, grouped reports, crosstabs, labels, barcodes , simple graphs etc.)
c) Compression
d) Encryption
e) Data export/import (e.g. csv,excel,ascii,HTML,XML etc.)
f) Nice looking GUI with gradients, menus, images, split bars,toolbars, generally MS explorer or MS outlook looking
g) Image/Animation files support for toolbars, buttons, fields, window backgrounds, logos etc.
h) Easy file system access (find files , browse, save data etc.)
i) Web service support
j) Drag and drop
k) Custom controls, plug-ins
l) OLE/D-Bus support
m) Debugger
n) Threads
o) Use and build shared libs/DLLs
p) All common controls and dialogs (dates, fonts, colors, etc.)
q) Themes and/or skins
r) Multi language
s) Timer events and function scheduler
t) Runtime SQL generated grids or reports
u) Run-time scripting (e.g. VBscript)
v) Networking (e.g. ftp, smtp, http)
x) Transactions and stored procedures
y) Easy GUI design and event coding and handling + custom events on common controls
z) Multi-Platform

Nice to have short list:
1.Installer
2.Versioning
3.Multi tier support
4.TWAIN
5.WinCE / PocketPC
6.LDAP
7.Network controlled (e.g. something like DCOM)
8.Serial ports reading/writing (e.g. Thermal or card printers)
9.Logging

Science Fiction ideas:
1.Delphi/VB to U++ migration tool.
2.Delphi component compatibility.
3.Text to speech support
