Hello,

Persoannly, I think that Ultimate++ should parrticipate in events like Google Summer of Code. It is very important for further development of the library. First of all, we should create list of potential topics (I think that 5 polished topics should be enough). And one of the most important notice from LibreaOffice site: "New tasks should be added only by those with the experience and time to invest in mentoring new developers"

Example of ideas accepted by Google:
BRL-CAD ideas
KDE ideas <- Noticed by Google in GSOC Faq
LibreOffice ideas
Mozilla ideas

External resources:
GSOC 2014 - Official Site
GSOC 2014 - Calendar
GSOC 2014 - FAQ

Ultimate++ resources:
GSOC 2014 main page
GSOC 2014 ideas
GSOC 2014 mentors page

Ultimate++ resources(deprected):
GSOC forum topic

P.S.
I am ony student, so I can not organize this event by myself. It would be funny if I will be mentor to myself.

P.S. 2
It seems that each idea should have assigned mentor(s) with e-mail adress(es). Please look at KDE or LibreOffice ideas.

P.S 3
Have we got IRC channel?

Time remaining: 0 days. (Deadline: February 14 at 19:00 UTC 2014)

============================================================
IDEA TEMPLATE!

--- Title of the task ---

Brief explanation:
Short project desciption. Explanation can posses link to additional resources like forum disscusion about topic.

Expected result:
What should be the end result of the project for example "Ultimate++ works on Android platform".

Required skills/knowledge:
Like C++, Ultimate++, PHP, Java, Ruby, Python, C#, Objective-C, SQL, debugging, networking(sockets etc.), ability to reads someone code etc.

Difficult:
piece of cake/easy/medium/hard/ultra hard/ultimate fight/impossible

Potential menthor/s(Can be more than one):
Ultimate Menthor, e-mail: ultimate.menthor@ultimate.org

Sincerely,
klugier

As for ideas, what about something a bit more Google-related:

- Android support - ide (builder), GUI backend

- NaCl backend - dtto

- Touch support (raw touch input, gestures, default mapping of gestures to mouse events)

- Support for Turtle to access google-drive

....

U++ web has been updated with new GSoC 2014 pages.
- Main page
- Ideas: Klugier template and Mirek ideas are already included

Links to very interesting documents are included.

All pages will be updated daily with your inputs.

The main priority is to add new ideas following the template and to get more mentors.

Best regards
Iñaki

------------------------------------------------

Hello,

So, this is my idea beta version (Please review):

--- U++ Independend Audio Module ---

Proposed by:
Zbigniew Rêbacz (Student)

Difficulty:
Hard

Required skills/knowledge
C++, C, minimal U++ knowledge, debugging, low-level programing, understanding somebody's code, reading & understanding documentation, createing multiplatform code;

Expected result:
U++ audio module works on multiple operating system such as Microsoft Windows, GNU/Linux, FreeBSD. But, we will be happy if the code will work at least on two platforms.

Brief Explanation
U++ currently handle audio only with other high level libraries for instance SDL. The main task is to create independent module. To achieve this you will need to use low level API for each operating system which U++ supports such as WinAPI or Alsa.

Mentor:
??? // <- I am looking for mentors Wink

Roadmap:
Investigate audio libraries for each operating system which Ultimate++ supports.
Study U++ API design
Design U++ audio API
Write audio code for each platform

Sincerely,
Klugier

Hello,

So, this is my idea beta version (Please review):

--- U++ Independend Audio Module ---

That is a good idea. I tried something similar few years ago Smile Byck then, I set the goal of creating multiplatform sound support based on portaudio library. It still rots in bazaar, because it was never reliable enough :-/ Maybe you could pick up some ideas from those packages (Sound, plugin/portaudio, plugin/waw), or finish them even finish them...

I could mentor you on the API side, but I'm afraid I don't know much on the underlying low-level stuff... As you could probably tell since I haven't been able to finish my project on the same topic Smile

Hello Koldo,

Can you separate ideas from template on the ideas site (It dosen't look very good and it can also misleading).

I think one big line between template and ideas will be perfect.

Sincerely,
Klugier
