Looks like we will receive some sponsor money for U++ project.

I was thinking about putting it into a good use by organizing some sort of international U++ users meeting.

Would anybody be interested in coming?

Naturally, the place of first such thing IMO should be in CZ, most likely Prague or close to it...

I'm interested Smile That would be fantastic to meet all upp developers and users. I think summer (august?) is the best time to organize it. Prague - great choice, that's wonderful place.
I could for example prepere a presentation about GridCtrl/DropGrid if anyone interested.

I do not think august is ideal - many people want to spend it on holidays.

I would vote for September.

The problem is I've already planed to spend my holidays in September Smile But if it was in the end of the 3rd week of September I vote for it too.

Brilliant idea, Mirek !

Prague is also a good place to held the meeting.
I would like to attend the meeting, but I cannot specify a definitive favorable date.

Unfortunately I don't think I can contribute something like a presentation since I am only touching U++ surface at the moment, but it would be nice to meet all of you personally and have a good Czech beer Wink.

A bit off-topic, but Ubuntu Developer Session (discussing plans for Ubuntu 8.10) will be held in Prague too, from 19.5. till 23.5. .

I'm not sure how this may help U++ core developers, and what is possible to achieve by attending this meeting, thinking about adding U++ package into universe repository is probably shooting too high, still maybe there will be something good in it for everyone.

Seems a good idea a meeting of Upp developers, but the question is how many can come? The meeting means to put aside some money, foreigner programmer must think about his transportation and if the meeting is for 2 or more days, he must save some money for roost.

A bit more offtopic: Laughing
I was thinking if we can have some bounties like others projects have. Maybe are there programmers who want have solved their problems in that way. It can include even Upp MacOS port (which i don't know in what status is it).

For those who will fly to Prague tickets are chipper in second half of September. They are even chipper in November.

I will be in western Canada by then so its a long haul but I'd love to come and visit Prague so there's a good chance I would make the journey (as a U++ user).

Such a distance from the US, but it'd be interesting.

Well, looks like this topic became a little bit cold, I guess it is time to revive it. (Meanwhile, the sponsorship materialized, so the thing is really actual).

So

September 20-21 2008

was relatively OK date for anybody interested, correct?

Based on this thread I would expect quite small event, something like 10-15 people coming.

I think the one good idea would be to present some some existing commercial projects to show how everybody is using U++.

I would certainly like to demonstrate that boring municipal agenda, because after all, it was the original cause of U++ development Wink

20-21.Sep will surely not work for me (wedding of friend), but never mind, I'm not sure about whole autumn anyway, I will be very likely unable to attend even on other dates, so don't move it because of me.

Maybe we can make some very local unofficial Prague meeting in next weeks, while I'm still in Prague? Wink

20-21 - I'm not sure if I will be able to be there on this date. The problem is I have planned vacation from 01-04 + 2 weeks. It all depends when my vacation starts. If we could move it to 27-28 I would be there for sure. Don't let this first in history meeting happen without me... Wink
