Interesting indeed, I would expect the "xic" variant to be triggered - at least that is what happens on ubuntu (it works there).

But this patch doesn't solve problem with shifted caron i.e. "ù". This patch have solved only single keyboard chars.
I have to find why "xic" variant doesn't be triggered.

I've instaled scim to Fedora and unicode chars starts to work. "xic" is triggered and Xutf8LookupString is used.
