When added/removing breakpoint the debug-session has to be restarted before they become active? Is that really necessary?

Using TheIde with:

gcc version 4.2.4 (Ubuntu 4.2.4-1ubuntu3).

and:

GNU gdb 6.8-debian (also included with ubuntu)

I would like to help improve GDB support in TheIde,
but where do I start?

When I press F5 when does theide start communication with GCC?

Greetings,

Jan
