Ubuntu, as a distribution, works extremely well. I do not know if Gnome should claim the credit for this as much as the careful efforts of the Ubuntu team, but it's certainly a very compelling alternative now to Windows.

Still, I have always had some concern about KDE's licensing. Perhaps, now, we will see if the Gnome folks were correct to make that enough of an issue to maintain the fork between window managers for posix systems.
