Have you tried using Chameleon Styles?

Use this:
MenuBar::Style& style = MenuBar::StyleDefault().Write();

Using the members from style you can alter the global look of your menu. It works for any control.

BTW, let me know if you encounter any problems with those characters in menus. I'm trying to iron out all the issues with CJK characters.
