Debugging TheIDE is easy. The problem is that the generated executable has a different name and locations, so it doesn't find the configuration files.

After compiling the "ide" package, debug it normally. The package selector should show up displaying an empty list. Right click on it and recreate the package nests that you normally use. You don't need all of them, only uppsrc should suffice, but you can add them all. After this you should have a fully working and debugable TheIDE.

This is how I do it, but I never tried under Linux. I don't see why it shouldn't work under Linux, except for not so great gdb support.
